Cinnamon and spice not always nice – beware of lead in six brands (FDA Alert)

Cinnamon Products found to be containing lead

On March 6, 2024, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it had found lead contamination in six brands of ground cinnamon spice. While the levels detected were low, there is no safe level of lead exposure. Ingestion of lead can result in elevated blood lead levels and associated brain and nervous system damage, and is particularly hazardous to young children. If you have cinnamon spice in your home from any of these brands/lots, the FDA recommends throwing it out: https://www.fda.gov/food/alerts-advisories-safety-information/fda-alert-concerning-certain-cinnamon-products-due-presence-elevated-levels-lead?.
